Hanif Kureishi is one of the most influential South Asian writers in contemporary British literature, and his achievements are his insightful writing of Pakistani-British immigrant family and social lives. The novella Intimacy relates to the marriage crisis after seven years of family life, and presents the protagonist Jay＇s ongoing spiritual troubles and psychological anxieties. It not only confronts the middle-age crisis for male subjects, and their various psychological problems, but also reflects the changing gender norms and marriage morality in contemporary British culture.
