浅谈ESP科技翻译课程中的WHAT、WHERE与HOW因素

On WHAT, WHERE and HOW factors in ESP Scientific and Technical Translation Course

ESP,即专门用途英语,在社会经济发展和语言学研究发展的前提下应运而生。特定的职业需求,决定了ESP课程的教学目的、教学内容乃至教学方式都应区别于EGP(通用英语)教学,也就是普通大学英语教学。除了常规的教材之外,ESP科技英语翻译课程的学生还应接触第一手的翻译材料。该课程也可从传统的教室迁移只安装有翻译软件的翻译实验室,突出学生的主体性,培养学生自主学习的能力,提高学生的参与度,以实现更好的教学效果。

ESP, English for Specific Purposes, comes to existence with the development of society and economy, as well as linguistic study. Specific requirements in the work define the purposes, contents and methods employed in ESP teaching which are different from EGP, English for General Purpose. Besides text books, the first-hand translation materials shall be involved in ESP Scientific Translation. Moreover, it would be fruitful that students are learning translation in a translation lab equipped with CAT tools instead of traditional classroom. Students＇ subjectivity shall be focused on, and their ability of independent study and participation shall be paid attention, by which better teaching effect can be achieved.
