Inheritance and Innovation of University Culture as an Important Mission of the Times:Review on the Symposium of“Modernization of Higher Education:Inheritance and Innovation of University Culture”

现代化进程中的高等教育创新发展需要发挥大学的文化创新职能。大学文化的本质在于"化"人,是大学文化的价值理性与工具理性的统一。在新的历史时期,大学文化的传承创新是时代赋予大学的重要使命,是高教强省建设的重要内容,在此进程中,要建设各具特色的大学文化,包括高职院校的特色文化建设。将文化传承创新拓展为大学的第四职能是建设中国特色的大学与高等教育现代化的必然要求。

Higher educational innovation and development in the process of modernization need universi- ties to play the role of cultural innovation. There will be no first-class higher education without first-class cul- ture. The essence of university culture is to reclaim people, which is the integration of university culture＇s value rationality and instrumental rationality. University culture is the soul of university. In the new historical period, inheritance and innovation of university culture is an important mission of the times and also the main content of constructing province of strong higher education. In this process, universities including vocational colleges need to develop culture with distinctive features. It is inevitable to expand inheritance and innovation of culture to be the university＇s fourth function during the process of constructing Chinese-featured universities and moderniza- tion of higher education.
