Zeng Shusheng is a representative character in Bajin＇s river novel Cold Night. After its pub- lication, the dramatis Personae Zeng Shusheng in this novel had become very disputed, sympathized by some people, criticized by others. But in this article, author believes that she is a new fair sex in pursuit of individual liberty, her leaving behavior is not for a life of pleasure, but for a reason of long--term lack of love and spiritual underpinning in her home.
