In the history of modern ideology and culture in China, Liang Qichao is one of the earliest Chinese intellectuals who studied Tagore. Towards the end of the Qing Dynasty, for the purpose of "saving China with literature," Liang Qichao tried to translate western culture, and invited western scholars to give lectures in China. On the other hand, he realized his return from advocating western culture to promoting traditional Chinese culture, believing that eastern civilization can save the world. Based on his ideological background, Rabindranath Tagore, as the first Asian writer who won the Nobel Prize for literature, was invited to visit China in 1924. But in the special political, social and cultural environment of China at that time, the sincere friendship between Liang Qichao and Tagore was misunderstood and criticized by critics as harboring "ulterior motives". From a special perspective, we can look into the substance of Chinese cultural contradictions by analyzing the reason for this misunderstanding.
