Shipu fishing port, also named Li port, is located in the south of Xiangshan peninsular, shaped like a crescent. Covering 27 square kilometers of waters, and having a depth of 433 meters, the port is capable of anchoring about 10,000 fishing ships and accessible for 10,000-tonnage ships. It is freeze-free as well as silt-free year round and therefore recognized as an ideal haven on the Southeast coast and known as one of the major fishing ports in China. Apart from the port, Shipu fishing port is also famous for the ancient city which has a history of 617 years. Located on the coast, the ancient city was built by hillside with winding streets and deep alleys. By following the ups and downs of the hill, the construction of the ancient city is able to connect the valley to the port, and therefore it took a historically important position in coast defense of Southeast China.
