中华武学以中国哲学的根本理论太极阴阳学说和元气本体论来指导和创生拳法。与此对应,西方传统哲学中的形式逻辑和形而上学与西方任一项体育运动决无这样的深刻联系。这和西方的体育项目有着大不同,中华武学因此包含有区别与其他体育项目的独有特性。古老的、连续不断的文明保存了人类早期的感知世界的方式和经验,这是非连续性文明(西方文明)难以做到的。这有助于说明形成中国的历史形态、文化形态的原因和发掘武学的独有特性。
