Mozi's Idea of Righteousness and Profit and the Establishment of Modern Business Ethics

义利之辩是先秦的思想家们极为关注的重要议题之一,儒家主张重义轻利,法家主张重利轻义,墨子兼采儒法之长,提出尚利贵义,主张义利并重,体现了一种合理有限的功利主义的价值取向,符合当代人的行为倾向。墨子的义利观为我们构建现代商业伦理提供了义利统一的基础性原则和交相利的手段性原则。

A controversy on righteousness and profit and their relationship was among the important topics of the thinkers concerned in Pre-Qin.The Confucians valued righteousness and belittled profit,but the Legalism valued profit and belittled righteousness.Mozi absorbed the quintessence both of the Confucians and the Legalism,he valued both profit and righteousness,which represented a reasonable and limited tutilitarian value.Such idea meets the people＇s tend in the modern age.Mozi＇s idea of righteousness and profit provided two principles for the establishment of modern business ethics.One is a fundamental principle,i.e.identifyng righteousness with profit,the other is a methodology principle,i.e.mutual benefit.
