20世纪80年代的德语文学,特别是小说创作,其最重要的特点就是从现代主义晚期向后现代主义的转变。在国际大环境的影响下,从70年代末开始,后现代主义思潮和后现代主义文学,在德国呈现出越来越强劲的发展态势。德语小说中最有影响力的几部后现代主义小说,皆产生于80年代,并集中体现了后现代主义小说的特征。与此同时,处于现代主义与后现代主义之间的作家和极端的实验小说,也吸引着评论界的关注。

One of the most distinguishing features of German literature including novels in the 80's of the 20th century was the transformation from late modernism to postmodernism.Since the late 70's,postmodernism and postmodern novels have become more and more influential in Germany.This decade witnessed the birth of some of the most successful German postmodern novels that all bear the representative characteristics of postmodernism.Writers who shifted between modernism and postmodernism and some radically experimental novels have also drawn the attention of contemporary critics.
