Irish Literary Renaissance

爱尔兰文艺复兴是对19、20世纪之交在爱尔兰爆发的一股文学潮流的统称。具有强烈民族自觉意识的作家们纷纷撰文,致力于挖掘和表达有别于欧洲其他国家、尤其是英国的爱尔兰独特文化与民族特性。本文分析论述了文艺复兴期间文学的繁荣及其政治性,指出爱尔兰文艺复兴时期百花争鸣的多元主义是爱尔兰民族国家建国前的一次文化总动员,是对多样化的爱尔兰性的文化表达。

Irish Literary Renaissance refers to the literary boom in Ireland at the turn from the nineteenth to the twentieth century.Writers,prompted by strong nationalist sentiments,stated their views in quick succession,searching for literary expressions of cultural and national identities which were distinctively Irish and different from those of other European countries,especially Britain.This article analyzes the literary boom during the period,argues for its political nature,and reaches the conclusion that the inclusive pluralism of the literary expressions in the Renaissance period is a cultural maneuver before the founding of the nation state and culturally utters the desire for a diversified definition of Irishness.
