Methods Fifty-two nurses were included in the study, which were all working in the psychiatric ward. They were randomly divided into experimental group and control group by a random number table, each group included 26 nurses. A nurse occupation stress questionnaire was designed by the researchers, and was conducted in the time before communication skills training, when the training was accomplished and 30 days after the training was accomplished. The experimental group took a communication skills training with group psychological education method by 8 times in total, 2 times a week, each time lasting 1 hour. Results The findings showed that all the members in the two groups had a high level occupation pressure before the intervention. When the training was accomplished, the members in the experimental group had significantly lower levels of occupation pressure compared to the control group. The lower levels of occupation pressure in the experimental group continued 30 days after the training. Conclusion Communication skills training with group psychological education method can relieve the occupational pressure of psychiatric nurses effectively.
