The experience of Professor Jiang Shi-sheng in treating functional constipation was summarized in the paper.As Professor Jiang noted,the pathogenesis of functional constipation is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality,with deficiency syndrome more common,and is particularly closely associated with the spleen and stomach;investigation of pathogenesis,careful examination of tongue picture,and focusing on main syndrome should be fulfilled clinically;syndrome differentiation-based treatment should aim at the root causes of disease and achieve dredging by tonification;harmony between the heaven and human should be emphasized,and comprehensive therapy including psychological counseling,rational diet,and moderate exercise should be adopted,thus achieving good clinical effect.One typical case was included in the paper for clinical reference.
