The Water Resources Group, an Australian low-cost water treatment technologies company, forecasts that by 2030 global water demand may outstrip supply by 40 percent, while the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development （OECD） predicts that almost half the world＇s people will be living under severe water stress. By 2050, according to the UN＇s Food and Agriculture Organization, one in five developing countries will face water shortages. Global groundwater extraction has tripled in the past 50 years, during which time India and China＇s groundwater use has risen 10-fold.
