辽上京城址位于内蒙古巴林左旗林东镇东南,紧邻现代城镇。上京城平面略呈“日”字形,由皇城(北)和汉城(南)组成。西山坡是皇城西南的一处自然高地和全城的制高点。山坡上有三组东向的建筑基址群,其中北组有三座圆台形建筑基址,地面保存较高,曾屡遭盗掘破坏。中间基址位于北组的轴线上,规模最大,编号为一号建筑基址(YTl)。南、北两座基址较小,
ABSTRACT: In July through October 2012, archaeological excavation was conaucteo to me Alsnanpo (West Hillside) Locus in the Imperial City of the Shangjing (Upper Capital) City Site of the Liao Dynasty. The remains and axtifacts recovered in the excavation showed that the Xishanpo Locus was a Buddhist temple site built in the Liao Dynasty. The north complex of this temple was a wall-enclosed rectangular courtyard facing east; in the west of this courtyard were the foundations of three hexagonal Buddhist pagodas, in front of which were small-sized architectural foundations and a square. The Architectural Foundation No. l was a large-scale foundation, from which large amount of Buddhist clay sculptures were unearthed. This excavation will be significantly influential to re-understanding the form and layout of the Imperial City Site of the Shangjing Site of the Liao Dynasty, and also provided important physical materials for the researches on the archaeology, history, Buddhism and architecture of the Liao Dynasty.
