Objective To measure cerebral venous phase values in healthy adults with SWI, and to evaluate the variation of venous phase values by age and drainage territory. Methods Totally 96 healthy volunteers underwent conventional MRI and SWI. Blood phase values of specified veins, including internal cerebral vein, basal vein, superficial middle cerebral vein, superior sagittal sinus, cerebellar vein as well as median anterior vein of brainstem were measured. The phase values among different age groups (20—29 years old, 30—39 years old, 40—49 years old, 50—59 years old and 60—69 years old), as well as among different veins were compared. Results No significant difference of venous phase values was found among different age groups (all P〉0.05). Phase value of superior sagittal sinus (-0.644±0.079) was the lowest among all specified vessels (all P〈0.05), whereas cerebellar vein and median anterior vein of brainstem (-0.473±0.089, -0.354±0.075) had higher phase values than other veins (all P〈0.05). Conclusion There is no age-related change for cerebral venous phase values. Blood phase values are various in different cerebral venous structures.
