A few selected topics of the physics of railroad tracks are discussed ;thereby the profile of difficulties reaches from simple introductory school physics to ambitious background information for the teacher. The selection is intended to give an example how the usual book-knowledge-physics instruction can be enriched by producing the flavor of investigative thinking around demanding problems.
