Equality of Cultures: Challenge and Response

不同民族的文化在其哲学价值上是平等的。而现代化与全球化过程中西方文化的霸权地位是以损失人类文化的多样性丰富内涵为代价的。各种语言的价值本是平等的,当今世界英语的霸权地位也是不合理的。既要加速现代化,又要保持民族的文化传统,这是我们所面临的艰难的选择。在英语教学中,应注意渗透文化平等与语言平等的观念,应培养学生的爱国主义精神。

Different cultures are equal on the basis of philoso- phy. But during the period of this global modernization,the Western culture establishes its hegemony at the cost of losing a variety of other cultures. The value of each language is also e- qual,the hegemony of English is certainly unreasonable. Therefore,we should not only speed up the modernization but also preserve our traditional culture. This is a difficult choice we have to make. Therefore, in our English teaching ,we must permeate the idea of equality of cultures and languages, and foster our students to love our country.
