CREATING YOUR CITY AND MINE

采访饶及入之前，我阅读了他的博客文章，也读了别人写他和他自己写的书。看过我们提供的采访提纲，他说，可以写一本书了。在整理这篇采访时，取舍很难。限于篇幅，对话主要从其传统文化学习经历，对美国建筑业界的认识，纽约规划官员履历，从建筑师到“建筑商”的独特中国实践之路，提升幸福生活指数的城市规划主张，更多促进中美交流的未来梦想等方面展开，希望能为读者展现一位鲜活生动的华人建筑师形象。在闪光的头衔、骄人的业绩背后，有他对建筑师职业现状的清醒认识，也有在美国创业的艰辛和在中国市场丛林哲学里的创伤。作为一位成功的“建筑商”，他说，“可能一些真正的设计师会对我有看法，认为我不是设计师，但会有一些生意人很佩服我能将设计行业做成现在这种规模”，但他自己真正在意的，不是别人对他微观的看法，而是自己在宏观上做成了什么，“我坚持走了我自己的路，我活得值得!”

Behind many shining titles and impressive achievements of Rao, this article tells the story of a successful architect Rao has a conscious version of the current situation that architects are in. He has learn a lot in American when he started his business there and then went through very tough time in China because of the specific problems and difficulties here. As a successful , he says, ＂some businessmen admire me for the enterprise scale of my company, however, some designers may have a different opinion on me and do not consider me as an authentic designer.＂ In fact, what he really care is not the opinions from others. He believes that he lives a worthy life by going his way.
