"Carea":A New Concept on Elderly Care in Japan

As the first Asian country to become an ＂aged society＂, Japan, which can offer many useful lessons, has done much to deal with the aging problems. Since 2000, the Japanese government has started a national ＂Nursing Care Insurance＂ policy which promotes in the whole country the idea that the aging care should be supported by the whole social insurance system other than the family itself. With economic and social development, there has been more and more functional segmentation in the aging care system in Japan. But while the aging care system is pursuing a variety of different functions, it seems to ignore that there are still a part of the elderly population expecting a balance between their physical and psychological change during the aging period. To meet this need, an elderly home brand called ＂Secomfort＂ has proposed a new concept to meet the complicated characteristics of the elderly and reconcile the conflicts arising from the disparities of their physical and psychological aging processes. The new concept points to the future direction of the development of the entire aging care system.
