Transformational Public Space

We can define the public realm as the place where we come together as a community, where we meet, where we play, where we learn, where we do business and where we are entertained. The public realm can be thought of as the dwelling place of civic and public life. The importance that we attach to the design of the public realm defines the importance that we, as a community attach to civic and communal life. New Zealand and Auckland in particular has experienced a step change in the realisation of urban public space that is seeing the pedestrian and community come first where previously vehicle traffic had dominated.
