On the Basis of Chinese Culture for the Development of Science and Democracy

文化发展不可移植、不可拼凑;我们要的是演化,日新与采撷。"五四"时期的许多识士采取了非理性的态度。他们把赛先生与德先生放中间的同时,竟然把中华固有文化里的好东西踢到两旁,以致中国近代史在好长一段时间里徘徊在欧美化、苏俄化、"现代化"之间。中华民族要发展出新文化,但对来自欧美的赛先生与德先生,须是采撷其中能与中华固有文化兼容而优良的部分,扬其其余。

Cultural development is implantable and not combinable but it needs derivation,innovation and gathering.During May Fourth many intelligent people followed their irrationality during cultural development.They even kicked off the best of Chinese original culture but centralized on Mr.Science and Mr.Democracy,which makes Chinese contemporary history ponder among the Occidentalized,the Soviet Union trend and 'modernization' for a very long time.This paper concludes that Chinese nation should renew its culture with the suitable part of Mr.Science and Mr.Democracy which are best compatible with Chinese culture.
