Chinese materia medica preparations are usually those unique to hospitals as over-the-counter （OTC） medicines that win wide praise of the patients. Quality of the medicine is therefore an important issue and a major concern. This article analyzes the influence factors to the quality of Chinese materia mediea preparations and probes into the ways to improve their quality, including selection of raw materials, processing of drugs, and production tech- niques to ensure their safety, stability, and effectiveness.
