摘要
大海和海湾是凯瑟琳.曼斯菲尔德短篇小说中最引人注目的场景和意象。这看似平常的意象却常常出现在人物心理和情节发展的关键时刻,具有含蓄而隽永的寓意。但海洋意象在曼斯菲尔研究中却往往被忽略,至今尚缺乏充分的阐释和分析。本文试图弥补这方面的欠缺,对其短篇小说中的海洋意象进行深入探讨,认为曼斯菲尔德对海洋和海湾的描写在展示主题、揭示人物心理和营造氛围等方面起到了不可或缺的作用。
Sea and bay are the most noticeable scenes in Mansfield＇ s short stories. The sea image, the seemingly ordinary image always appears at critical moments and is the embodiment of the theme of the stories and as well as the representation of the characters＇ psychology. However, there have been no due and convincing interpretations of it up to now. This paper intends to make a thorough analysis of the sea iamge in Mansfield＇ S short stories and tries to interpret from a new perspective. It argues that the sea image performs important functions in revealing theme, characterization and creating atmosphete.
