＂Thinking in English＂ means that English learners can make analysis, summary, judgment and in- ference according to the idea and concept in English language system, which is like what the English native speakers do. It is a very important research project in the field of English language learning and teaching. It is proved in this paper that ＂thinking in English＂ is practical and feasible. The universality of the negative trans- fer of mother tongue makes it necessary to think in English when we learn English. The dialectical unification of thoughts and language provides a fundamental basis for ＂thinking in English＂. To realize it, English learn- ers need to establish an English concept system and to enhance the knowledge and identification of English culture. This discussion can clear up English learners＇ doubts on the feasibility of thinking in English; there- fore, confirm their belief of carrying it out.
