The changes of microstructure, phase constituent and microhardness of the Cr Al mixed powders during mechanical alloying treatment have been investigated using X ray diffraction analysis, SEM examination and microhardness testing. The results show that the microstructure of the Cr Al mixed powders subjected to mechanical alloying for 96 h exhibits a super saturated solid solution of Cr and intermetallic compound, η AlCr\-2
