扎里斯基在20世纪30年代末和40年代,因为要为经典代数几何建立严格的逻辑基础,率先将抽象代数大规模地引入到了经典代数几何中的过程,其结果导致产生了抽象的现代代数几何,促进了代数几何的大发展.
In the late 1930s to 1940s, in order to establish a solid logical foundation for classical algebraic geometry, Zariski, for the first'time in history, applied a tremendous amount of abstract algebra in classical algebraic geometry, and therefore transformed the language of algebraic geometry, thus leading to the ultimate emergence of abstract algebraic geometry.
