The error sensitivity of contact position of point-contact tooth surfaces with respect to the mounting errors is an important index to evaluate the gearing performance. In this paper, a series of formulae for the calculation of the error sensitivity are provided,and the calculated results with the formulae are correspondent with the experimental ones through a concrete example. The formulae provided in the paper are the foundation on which the analysis of the error sensitivity can be executed,they are also the basic components of the mathematical model for the active design of tooth surfaces.
