Mouse tooth development is regulated by a series of interactions between the cranial neural crest- derived mesenchyme and the ectoderm-derived epithelium. Signaling molecules in the FGFs family appear to regulate the interactions including the determination of tooth forming sites, cell proliferation and differentiation and tooth morphogenesis. The FGFs signaling pathway consists of twenty-three growth factors (FGF1-23), through four receptors (FGFR1-4) plays an important role in tooth development. The paper summarized the particular expression patterns and functions of all ligands (FGFs) and receptors (FGFRs) in mouse tooth development.
