Is Sense Reference?——A Comparative Study on Russell and Strawson’s Theory of Reference

指称理论是知识论的重要问题之一,分析哲学学界对此进行了深入的探讨。罗素认为,意义即指称;而其论战者斯特劳森认为意义是有关语句或语词,指称是有关语词的使用,真假是有关语句的使用。因此二者的根本区别在于"是否要区分意义和指称"。此研究对于理解知识论中意义理论、指称理论与真假理论有重要价值。

The theory of reference is one of the important problems about epistemology.The academic circles of analytical philosophy have in-depth discussed it.In Russell’s view,sense is reference;but his contradictor Strawson thought sense is related to sentence or expression,reference is related to the use of expression,the True or the false is related to the use of sentence.Therefore,the two fundamental difference is that for ＂whether to distinguish between sense and reference ＂.This study is important significance for understanding the theory of meaning,theory of reference and truth theory in epistemology.
