The National Scientific and Technological Award Conference took place in Beijing on January aS, 2oa3. It is an annual event to honor distinguished scientists and their research achievements. This year the top awards went to explosion mechanics expert Zheng Zhemin, an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS） and the Chinese Academy of Engineering （CAE）, and Wang Xiaomo, ＂father＂ of the airborne warning and control system in China and also a CAE academician.
