Advances in Protection of STD Patients The Ministry of Health has amended the Measures for the Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, which was enacted in 1991. Under the new edict, STD patients are obliged to take preventive measures and are forbidden to intentionally spread the virus. In some circumstances those who fail to follow the new rules and infect others could be prosecuted in civil lawsuits or face criminal charges. The regu- lations prohibit healthcare providers from disclosing private information about people with STDs. It reiterates that institutions and individual citizens should not discrimi- nate against this group of people, whose legitimate rights to education, health care, employment, marriage and procreation are protected.
