2012年12月23日，由杭州市人民政府、中国美术学院、全国城市雕塑建设指导委员会、中国雕塑学会共同主办，由中国美术学院公共艺术学院与杭州市规划局承办的“2012中国杭州第四届西湖国际雕塑邀请展”在西溪湿地隆重开幕。

Waterfront space is one of the most dynamic regions in the city, is not only an important part of the urban public open space, but also the urban public open space with natural landscape and human landscape. Therefore, the waterfront area is the creating and reflecting assemblage of city public art, from the expression of waterfront landscape we can feel the history, nature and cultural connotation of cities. The construction of waterfront space public art in some higher economic cities has begun to take shape. Recent years, many typical cases all over the country highlight that Urban Waterfront enhanced the spatial features as publicity, artistry and flexibility, etc. through the intervention to the urban public space. The holding of 2012·The Fourth Westlake International Invitational Sculpture Exhibition is a typical practice and exploration of the building of the urban waterfront spatial art.
