The defining feature of dramas in Qing Dynasty is an obvious increase in the number of stories of Jielie or women of vir- tue. The purposes of prohibiting obscene dramas and fostering a sense of virtue among scholars motivated dramatists to write on such themes. Some of these dramatists displayed a special interest in such stories as a result of their individual experiences. Al- though most of the works have neither been performed nor influenced far, these dramas have their understanding value.
