These thoughts of Wang Guangyi during his ＂Things-In-Itself＇ 30 Years Retrospective Exhibition serve as a review of his artistic path and summary of the artist＇s conceptual development. He intends to reconstruct the mysterious quality of art and recall the public＇sdue respect for art. Wang does not regard art and the public necessarily related. When art receives the attention of too many people, it declines generally. It is a terrible thing to convert art into a fashion. It sends the mystic quality, the dignity and the value the word artcontains into oblivion. Wang Guangyi drives to revive the dignity in art and bring it back to where it was. The fundamental point where art and history correlate, in Wang Guangyi＇s mind, is the relation between himself and all the experiences he gathered from the reality heis in.
