“婁”“秋”二字考释

Explanation of Two Characters

"婁"字《说文解字》解说为"空也。从毋中女,空之意也",王筠《说文句读》认为"文不成义,不敢强解"。分析认为将小篆"婁"自下而上读作"女中毋",其意为女子身中空无一物。"秋"字《说文解字》解说为"禾榖孰也。从禾,■省声"。"婁"字究竟何解,"秋"字声中是否有义,容尝试解说,认为籀文"■"字,绘出了一幅禾穀成熟,蟋蟀鸣叫和大火流移的秋天图画。

In Shuowen Jiezi, Chinese character ＂婁＂ was explained to mean ＂empty＂ ; while Wang Yun held the opinion in the Shuowen Judou that it was hard to interpret since the text seemed to make no sense. In the paper, the character ＂婁＂ is believed to integrate 3 characters of ＂woman, in, and empty＂, and therefore shall be defined as nothing carried by the woman. In Shuowen Jiezi,Chinese character ＂ 秋＂ was explained to mean ＂crops＂. The paper tries to explain the meaning. In the paper, the character ＂ ＂ isthought to depict a picture of autumn with ripe crops, cricket and hot weather, and ＂秋＂ are not suitable, this paper puts forward our new view.
