Study of the Factors Affecting EFL Learners' Processing of Relative Clauses

摘要 本文调查从句类型、中心词生命性和英语水平对英语学习者关系从句加工的影响。混合方差分析发现,从句类型对英语学习者关系从句的加工有显著的主效应,中心词生命性和英语水平则没有。中心词生命性对从句类型效应的制约力很强,英语水平的制约力则偏弱。从句类型与中心词生命性的交互作用是无序的,与英语水平的交互作用则是有序的。本文加深了名词短语可及性层级假设的研究,表明不同类型关系从句加工的难易度受到中心词生命性和英语水平不同程度的影响。 This article investigates the effects of clause type, head animacy and English proficiency on EFL learners' processing of relative clauses. As a mixed ANOVA reveals,clause type exerts a significant effect on the EFL learners' processing of relative clauses, yet neither head animacy nor English proficiency does. Head animacy moderates the effect of clause type strongly while English proficiency does so slightly. The interaction between clause type and head animacy is disordinal, whereas that between clause type and English proficiency is ordinal. The article deepens the study of NPAH,indicating that the ease of processing different types of relative clause is affected to different degrees by head animacy and English proficiency.
