The Evidential Function of Reported Speech in Mandarin Chinese and the Related Issues

本文从引语的整体观出发,分别考察其各组成部分在语言使用中的传信功能。文章以含有"说"的引导句为例,研究发现新闻和小说两类语体中的"说"类引导句都多用信源指称度高的形式来传信。再从直接引语和间接引语在句法表现和语用功能上的差异入手,通过真实的言谈材料,着重讨论了两类引语传信功能的差异。

This paper explores the evidential functions of reporting clauses and the reported clauses from the holistic perspective of reported speech. As for the reporting clauses containing the utterance verb ＂shuo（说）＂, the use of high degree referential forms in them are preferred in the discourse type of both news and novel. Based on the differences of syntactic behavior and pragmatic function between direct speech and indirect speech, the different evidential functions of these two types of speech can be found.
