The trend of surfactant oil displacement development is introduced. The development of tertiary oil recovery requires surfactants to have not only good properties of low oilwater interfacial tension, low absorption value, the compatibility with reservoir fluid, saltresisting and heatresisting, but also low cost. The cost of the surfactants is a main factor restricting their development. the surfactants of good performance and low cost are in great demand. The progress on the study is discussed in this paper.
