罗伯特·弗罗斯特诗歌里的旅行者形象蕴含着丰富的清教情感,他们如同人类的始祖,有时抵挡不住俗世诱惑,在罪恶面前显示出内心的脆弱,破坏了与上帝之约,然而他们从未动摇敬仰上帝的虔诚和渴望被救赎的信念。这样的现世旅行者普遍具有一种死亡意识,他们坚信唯有通过死亡,灵魂才能到达目的地——"天堂"。为此,他们摒弃欢愉,视艰苦劳作为"天职",并珍惜时间,谨小慎微。这些品质构成了弗罗斯特诗歌清教情感的主体内容。
The image of travelers in Robert Frost＇s poems contains lots of puritan sensibilities. On one hand, like the earliest ancestors of human beings, they cannot keep being been temped by the temporal woad, on the contra- ry, facing the evil, they show the weakness of their inner hearts and yield to the evil with the result that they break the covenant with God. However, they still respect God piously and hold firmly their faith to God for redemption. On the other hand, this kind of temporal travelers commonly own the sense of death. They firmly believe that only through death, can their souls get to their destination--＂paradise＂. So in the traveling of the temporal woad, they abandon entertainments and regard the hard work as their only mission. They grasp every second to work hard and make sure to be always discreet in the temporal woad.
