Lolita is always a disputable novel as to its moral theme. As a liberal ironist, Nabokov holds that ＂cruelty is the worst matter of human beings＂. Humbert＇s cruelty appears throughout the novel. Humbert＇s cruelty is interpreted from the perspective of the interrelationship between Humbert, the narrator, and the other characters such as Lolita, Charlotte, Clair Quilty, etc. Based on the analysis, a natural conclusion is thereby drawn that Loiita is of strict morality.
