Decoding the Cultural Connotations of Hollywood Science Fiction Film

科幻电影是好莱坞电影的重要组成部分,是表达美国社会文化和意识形态的重要媒介,本文通过对好莱坞科幻电影的3个主要类别──"外星人入侵"科幻电影、"灾难和后灾难"科幻电影和"太空旅行"科幻电影的分析,揭示了影像背后所蕴含的反苏反共、美国至上的意识形态和对自由、平等、个人英雄主义等美国价值观的大力宣扬,同时也肯定了某些影片中对社会时弊的批判和对人类命运的终极关怀所具有的积极意义。

As an important sub-genre of Hollywood cinema, science fiction film serves as an important medium in transmitting American culture and ideology. This paper examines the three major sub-genres of American science fiction film： alien invasion, apocalypse and post- apocalypse, and space travel, revealing respectively their hidden ideologies of anticommunism and American Supremacy as well as their advocating of such American values as freedom, equality and individualism, and also affirming the significance of the realistic criticism of the social ills and ultimate concerns with human future conveyed in some SF films.
