Objective To investigate the influence of Martzhi Kechuanling on hemorheology and microcirculation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods One hundred and six COPD patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group (N = 56) was given oral use of the decoction of Chinese herbal recipe of Manzhi Kechuanlin, and the control group ( N = 50 ) was given routine western medical treatment. Before treatment and after treatment for 2 months, parameters of hemorheology and nail fold microcirculation were detected. Results After treatment, whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, erythrocrit and fibrinogen were significantly lowered in both groups (P 〈 0. 05 or P 〈 0. 01 compared with those before treatment), and the improvement of hemorheology parameters in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P 〈0. 05 or P 〈0.01 ). Nail fold microcirculation parameters were improved in the treatment group after treatment (P 〈 0.05 or P 〈 0.01 ), and only nail fold peri-loop score and the total score of nail fold microcirculation were improved in the control group (P 〈 0. 01 ). The nail fold peri-loop score and the total score of nail fold microcirculation were lower in the treatment group than those in the control group after treatment (P 〈 0. 05 or P 〈 0. 01 ). Conclusion Martzhi Kechuanling is effective on improving hemorheology and microeirculation in COPD patients.
