Ban Gu was greatly praised by the later generations for his contribution in the literary criticism. His critical ideas covered a wide range of issues, such as the evaluation for Qu Yuan and Lisao style, the views for Sima Qian and Historical records, the interpretation of produce, development, function and characteristics of Fu and poetry, the evaluation for the novel style. The o- pinion was not accurate and perfect, but it reflected the unique ideological tendency and occupied an important position in the history of literary criticism.
