Aristotle regarded the plot as the soul of a tragedy, thus, in his masterpiece, The Poetics, he focused his attention on theory of the plot of a tragedy, and put forward the “Reversal of the Situation-Recognition-Scene of Suffering” mode of plot. Wuthering Heights, a classic written by Emily Bronte, an English woman writer, is a worldly-acknowledged tragedy, and the multi- ple plots of the story correspond to Aristotelian mode of plot, especially in the course of Heathcliff' s life, i.e. , his earlier relation- ship, his latter relationship, and his tragic life. In these three phases, we can easily discover the sparkles of Aristotelian theory of plot, and detect the“ Reversal of the Situation” “Recognition” “Scene of Suffering” of each phase respectively.
