Kang Youwei's overseas business activities and their failures were the leading cause of the decline of the royalist movement.Business activities obscured its political themes,weakened its political vigor,and destroyed the internal unity of the participants.The royalist society and Kang Youwei's protégés got entangled into a morass of endless business disputes which resulted in conflicts,loss of solidarity and internal division within the group.
