王国维在创作《英国大诗人白衣龙小传》时,把真情分为高尚和低俗,并批评拜伦未有高尚之真情的现象,其文学观深受中国传统哲学思想及叔本华、康德、席勒等哲学思想的影响,这篇传记对于拜伦生活经历带来创作灵感的评价,客观上否定了以往认为王氏不注重诗人的"阅世"的观点;同时,对拜伦及其作品的批评则体现出对"主观之诗人"概念的清晰界定,即通过诗词来表达自身之真情与生活环境的对立,彰显了自己的文学观。
