晚清重臣魏光焘

Wei Guangtao:A Significant Statesman in Late Qing Dynasty

魏光焘系晚清政治、军事、外交上的重要历史人物。他早年投身湘军,靠军功而屡获升迁,历任江西布政使、陕西巡抚、新疆布政使、陕甘总督、云贵总督、两江总督、闽浙总督等官职。魏光焘一生,一是忠于满清王朝,为了挽救满清王朝的统治,殚精竭虑,血腥镇压各地的人民起义;二是克勤克俭,每至一方,励精图治,主政新疆七年,致力于新疆经济的恢复与发展,对促进新疆经济社会的发展做出了应有的贡献;三是颇具民族气节与爱国精神,一贯维护民族主权,反对外国侵略。

Wei Guangtao was a very important person in political, military and diplomatic in the late Qing Dynasty. He took part in the Xiangjun in his early time and had been moved up by military many times so as to hold the posts as Financial Commissioner both in Jiangxi and Xingjiang, Governor-General of Shangan, Yun- gui, Liangjiang and Mingzhe, and Grand Coordinators of Shanxi etc. Throughout his life, he was loyal to the Qing Dynasty, having been painstakingly advancing the rule of the Qing Dynasty and bloody suppressing the uprising around the country. With his industrious, frugal and hard-working, he had ruled Xinjiang for seven years and committed to its economic recovery and development in order to promoting the development of society and economy of Xinjiang. Besides, he was always maintained national sovereignty to fight against foreign ag- gression with his national integrity and patriotic enthusiasm.
