This paper describes some aspects of chlorination stage chemistry and the modification on the process. It presents the calculation methods of the amount of active chlorine required and the total chlorinated organics in bleaching effluent. It shows that higher ClO2 substitution for C12 as well as the use of high-shear medium-consistency mixers in chlorination stage is an effective means to decrease the extent of the pollution.
