After the "9/11" tragedy, Philip Roth paid more attention to the so- cial reality in America and tried to explore the tragic causes in history. In his novel Indig- nation, he describes in detail how the young people became silenced during the Korean War and how their tragedies happened. This novel implies that with the silence of contem- porary intellectuals, the government interferes in foreign affairs and intensifies social con- flicts at home. Therefore people should express their indignation to avoid such tragedies.
