From the aspect of narration, this paper analyzes how Waterland deconstructs the Grand Narrative: the narrator's speech predicament manifests the absence of meaning;the failure of the law of causality indicates the loss of the ultimate explanation.Meanwhile, this paper analyzes the non-mainstream narrative strategies, such as detective stories, superstitions, fairytales, rumors and legends, which construct not only ordinary people's personal and familial history but also the circulation mode of historical development at different levels.Deconstruction and construction are used together to make the 'first-class narration' in Waterland.
